When it comes to tracking Stripe payments in your Stripe account, we recommending leaning on the Stripe Transaction ID and using both Stripe and Planning Pod reports to find all information needed!
- Stripe can give you more information on payment status.
- Planning Pod can give you more context about the payment (like client and event information).
Why can't I cross reference with Client Information?
When a client pays through Stripe, they aren't required to give a lot of information in the checkout process- this is controlled by Stripe as they want to make the checkout process is seamless all customers. Sometimes, you might see a name or an email on your Stripe account, but often times, that can be left blank. Again, this is controlled by Stripe.
Why can't I cross reference with payment amounts?
It's important to note that the Planning Pod invoice amount and the actual payment in Stripe might vary. This is based on any potential fees or surcharges that happen during the checkout process. Surcharges on payment processing are not reflected in invoices because they are separate transactions intended to cover the cost of processing payments, not part of the revenue from goods or services sold. This separation ensures compliance with accounting principles, maintains transparency with clients, and helps avoid regulatory issues.
- Why am I seeing partial refunds on some of my transactions?
- I want to learn more about Payments and Deposits with the Planning Pod/Stripe connection!
Transaction ID is the Key!
The best way to cross reference is to utilize the transaction ID- every transaction through Planning Pod will get it's own unique transaction ID. It always starts with "pi_" and then has a series of numbers and letters. example: pi_24jf3Fm53223tJt
The transaction ID in Stripe will match up with the transaction ID in Planning Pod. You'll be able to see the IDs in your Stripe account (found in the Payments section) and you can quickly build out a report in Planning Pod so you can review multiple payment IDs in one spot.
