Using Shapes in Floor Plans and Creating Custom Items

There may be times when you need to create a custom item that doesn't exist in our element library or when you need to use a shape to represent an area or item in your floorplan layout. This is when you can use our shapes elements to customize the area/item to your specific dimensions; included in our shape options are circles, squares, rounded squares, rectangles and ellipses/ovals.

NOTE: If you want to create a custom table, you can use the custom table options in the "Tables and Seating" library, which will allow you to place chairs around the custom table you create. See the Using Custom Tables article.

To Add a Circle:

  1. Click on the "Floorplans" tool button on the Event Dashboard - OR - use the Quick Launch or Switch Event tool to select the appropriate Event and the "Floorplans" tool.
  2. Find the appropriate Floorplan to which you want to add elements and click on it.
  3. On the Floorplan Dashboard, select the "Library" tab in the left column and click on the "Shapes" icon Shapes-Icon.png.
  4. Click-and-hold on the circle icon and drag it to where you want to place it on the Floorplan canvas (you can always move/adjust it later).
  5. A form will appear that lets you edit:
    • Color
    • Label - For easily identifying what the shape represents in your floorplan
    • Diameter of circle
  6. Click "Save" when you are finished. You will be taken back to the Floorplan Dashboard where you can view and adjust the position of the item by dragging-and-dropping it.
  7. If you wish to add this new shape to your favorites library so you can use it again in future floor plans, click on the new shape to select it; find the quick edit menu in the top-left corner of the canvas; click on the favorites star icon Favorites-Icon.png; and follow the instructions to save this as a favorite element.

To Add a Square or Rounded Square:

  1. Click on the "Floorplans" tool button on the Event Dashboard - OR - use the Quick Launch or Switch Event tool to select the appropriate Event and the "Floorplans" tool.
  2. Find the appropriate Floorplan to which you want to add elements and click on it.
  3. On the Floorplan Dashboard, select the "Library" tab in the left column and click on the "Shapes" icon Shapes-Icon.png.
  4. Click-and-hold on the square or rounded square icon and drag it to where you want to place it on the Floorplan canvas (you can always move/adjust it later).
  5. A form will appear that lets you edit:
    • Color
    • Label - For easily identifying what the shape represents in your floorplan
    • Length of square side (applies to all four sides)
  6. Click "Save" when you are finished. You will be taken back to the Floorplan Dashboard where you can view and adjust the position of the item by dragging-and-dropping it.
  7. If you wish to add this new shape to your favorites library so you can use it again in future floor plans, click on the new shape to select it; find the quick edit menu in the top-left corner of the canvas; click on the favorites star icon Favorites-Icon.png; and follow the instructions to save this as a favorite element.

To Add a Rectangle:

  1. Click on the "Floorplans" tool button on the Event Dashboard - OR - use the Quick Launch or Switch Event tool to select the appropriate Event and the "Floorplans" tool.
  2. Find the appropriate Floorplan to which you want to add elements and click on it.
  3. On the Floorplan Dashboard, select the "Library" tab in the left column and click on the "Shapes" icon Shapes-Icon.png.
  4. Click-and-hold on the rectangle icon and drag it to where you want to place it on the Floorplan canvas (you can always move/adjust it later).
  5. A form will appear that lets you edit:
    • Color
    • Label - For easily identifying what the shape represents in your floorplan
    • Length and depth
  6. Click "Save" when you are finished. You will be taken back to the Floorplan Dashboard where you can view and adjust the position of the item by dragging-and-dropping it.
  7. If you wish to add this new shape to your favorites library so you can use it again in future floor plans, click on the new shape to select it; find the quick edit menu in the top-left corner of the canvas; click on the favorites star icon Favorites-Icon.png; and follow the instructions to save this as a favorite element.

To Add an Ellipse/Oval:

  1. Click on the "Floorplans" tool button on the Event Dashboard - OR - use the Quick Launch or Switch Event tool to select the appropriate Event and the "Floorplans" tool.
  2. Find the appropriate Floorplan to which you want to add elements and click on it.
  3. On the Floorplan Dashboard, select the "Library" tab in the left column and click on the "Shapes" icon Shapes-Icon.png.
  4. Click-and-hold on the ellipse icon and drag it to where you want to place it on the Floorplan canvas (you can always move/adjust it later).
  5. A form will appear that lets you edit:
    • Color
    • Label - For easily identifying what the shape represents in your floorplan
    • Length and width
  6. Click "Save" when you are finished. You will be taken back to the Floorplan Dashboard where you can view and adjust the position of the item by dragging-and-dropping it.
  7. If you wish to add this new shape to your favorites library so you can use it again in future floor plans, click on the new shape to select it; find the quick edit menu in the top-left corner of the canvas; click on the favorites star icon Favorites-Icon.png; and follow the instructions to save this as a favorite element.

To Edit/Duplicate/Delete a Single Shape Element:

  1. Click on the appropriate element on the canvas.
  2. A dynamic menu of editing options will appear in the top-left of the canvas. To make an edit, click on the appropriate item. From left to right, the options include:
    Furniture-Elements-Edit-Single.png
    • Favorite - Adds the selected item to your Favorites library.
    • Edit - Opens the editing modal window.
    • Rotate - Lets you rotate the item up to 360 degrees.
    • Duplicate - Copies the item.
    • Color - Changes the color of the item.
    • Delete - Deletes the item.
    • Bring to Front - Places the item on top of overlapping elements.
    • Send to Back - Places the item behind overlapping elements.

To Edit/Duplicate/Delete/Realign Multiple Shape Elements:

  1. Click on the first element you want to edit and then hold down on the "shift" key to select additional elements to edit - OR - click-and-drag your cursor over all the elements you wish to edit.
  2. A dynamic menu of editing options will appear in the top-left of the canvas. To make an edit, click on the appropriate item. From left to right, the options include:

    • Rotate - Lets you rotate the items up to 360 degrees.
    • Duplicate - Copies the items.
    • Color - Changes the color of the items.
    • Delete - Deletes the items.
    • Bring to Front - Places the items on top of overlapping elements.
    • Send to Back - Places the items behind overlapping elements.
    • The rest of the options relate to re-aligning the selected items:
      • Align Left - Aligns all selected items with the furthest item to the left.
      • Align Horizontal Center - Centers all selected items horizontally at the point between the two items to the furthest left and furthest right.
      • Align Right - Aligns all selected items with the furthest item to the right.
      • Align Top - Aligns all selected items with the item closest to the top.
      • Align Vertical Center - Centers all selected items vertically at the point between the two items closest to the top and bottom.
      • Align Bottom - Aligns all selected items with the item closest to the bottom.
      • Distribute Horizontally - Equally distributes the selected items horizontally (left to right) between the two items furthest to the left and furthest to the right.
      • Distribute Vertically - Equally distributes the selected items vertically (top to bottom) between the two items closest to the top and bottom.
